READING WITH TOOBALOOS

Kindergarten literacy centers and language activities
I have a basket of books that are at various levels of difficulty. Some have been introduced during small group guided reading lessons, others are readers that are made up of sight words students have been introduced to throughout the year, and still others are more difficult, with words we have not yet covered.

Students use 'toobaloos' to read to themselves. They are little curved tubes that basically allow you to read into your own ear! So cool! {And loud...so it makes you read quietly :)}

Students take a letter flower petal and put it into a word family flower pot to create a new word. The word is then recorded on their worksheet.

EASTER EGG SYLLABLE SORT

I broke out the clapping gloves that had been used earlier this year.
This time, students clapped the syllables of words printed on Easter eggs, then placed them in the right column.

They then copied some of the words onto their recording sheet.

The new sight word was added to our Words to Know chart, so that students can high-five it/read it as they exit the room. Click here to learn more about my high-five chart!
