Teacher Tips to Motivate Students

Ways to motivate students to be on their best behavior, to do their best work, and to keep their desks clean.
There are always students in the class that do their best work, keep their desks tidy, and are always on task. And we are so thankful for them and their mature work habits! :)
Sometimes, however, students need a little bit of a nudge in the right direction. Here are a few fun ways to motivate students to do their best work, stay on task, and keep those desks clean!
THE DESK FAIRY
Ways to motivate students to be on their best behavior, to do their best work, and to keep their desks clean.
The Desk Fairy comes on occasion while students are out of the classroom. She peeks into desks, and leaves this little certificate on the neatest desk she sees! Students are SO excited to see this on their desks :) Find this fun freebie from Sarah {here}
SECRET STUDENT
Ways to motivate students to be on their best behavior, to do their best work, and to keep their desks clean.
 Some days I hang the Secret Student sign at the corner of our whiteboard. Hidden underneath is a student's name.
Ways to motivate students to be on their best behavior, to do their best work, and to keep their desks clean.
Students know that when the sign is on the board, I will be watching the secret student all day to see if they having a good day, are kind, and are on task. It really makes students self-check their behaviors throughout the day!
If the student had a good day, I pull off the sign and reward the student whose name is underneath. If they didn't have a good day, I say "We'll try again tomorrow" without revealing who it was.

 I've made some fun awards for every topic under the sun, so that all students, no matter what abilities and gifts they have, will earn one :)

Fall Books for Kids

Fall picture books for an autumn theme, with book study companion activities to go with each book- perfect for Kindergarten and First Grade!
Here are some top favorite fall books for kids!
Did I miss any? Leave your suggestions in the comment section below!

WE'RE GOING ON A LEAF HUNT
This book is great for story mapping! The characters head to different places to collect leaves...only to turn quickly around and head back again. I use this interactive chart for story sequencing {all pieces are attached with Velcro, so students can put the pictures in order AND change the directions of the arrows}
